Information for New and Prospective Members
What is an Industry Training Council?
Training Councils are industry-driven bodies who ensure the provision of relevant, up-to-date training for Western Australia and provide assistance to their industries on all training related matters.
Membership of Training Councils is made up of a range of industry personnel with an interest in ensuring high quality training standards are maintained as well as that the needs of their particular industry are being addressed.
One of the key functions of a Training Council is to advise government about training priorities and where public funds should be best placed to address specific training needs.
Training Councils are non-government, not-for-profit organisations aimed at ensuring a sufficient supply of highly skilled labour both now and into the future.
Why are Training Councils so important?
Western Australia needs to be able to compete both domestically and internationally. To do this requires us to be able to produce goods and provide services at least to the level of our competitors.
This requires a highly skilled workforce and a training system that is responsive to it, whether it be for the individuals or for businesses of all sizes.
The role of the Training Council is to ensure industry has a means by which an industry sector can be represented to government as well as provide a help-desk service for anyone requesting information on industry-specific, training-related matters.
To do this, the Training Council is made up of key industry players supported by professional staff expert in training research and development and the training system at large.
