Overview

Asset Maintenance covers those areas that provide services relating to the physical maintenance of property assets. There are currently six industry sectors in this Training Package. They are:

• Carpet Cleaning
• Cleaning Operations
• Fire Protection Equipment
• Fire Safety Systems Inspection
• Pest Management
• Waste Management

These sectors have each been developed over a number of years. The Cleaning Operations and Pest Management sectors were the original industry sectors included in the Asset Maintenance Training Package. Fire Protection Equipment and Waste Management were included at a later date. Carpet Cleaning and Fire Safety Systems Inspection were included as part of the redevelopment of the Asset Maintenance Training Package.

Category 2 modification of selected endorsed units of competency and inclusion of additional units of competency in the Fire Protection Equipment sector covering the use of ozone depleting substances and synthetic greenhouse gases for regulatory purposes.

Category 1 modification of units PRMWM11B, PRMWM13B, PRMWM17B, PRMWM18B and PRMWM44B to cover the handling of waste oil as a waste or recyclable product.

Certificate II Asset Maintenance (Waste Management) 

Certificate III Asset Maintenance (Waste Management) 

Certificate IV Asset Maintenance (Waste Management) 

Registered Training Organisations

The Registered Training Organisation (RTO), e.g. TAFE institutions, universities with TAFE sectors, Skills Centres and similar enterprises that have registered to deliver vocational training for the given qualification.

Regulatory Information

Depending on which section of the industry you enter, the regulatory requirements will vary.  Main legislation directing policy includes:

• Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Act 2007
• Environment Protection Act 1986
• Contaminated Sites Act 2003

Usual legislation relating to safe practice will apply.
